After 4 months of planning and workshops and zine making and cataloguing, it’s finally here! The exhibition and zine explores loneliness, relationships in lockdown, the loss of lgbtqia+ spaces, the impact of regeneration, and imagining queer futures.

While our physical exhibition and planned installation had to be cancelled, you can view the exhibtion and zines via our online exhibition taking place over the space of 5 virtual rooms: The Docks, Mapping, Letters to you, Belonging, and Futures.

Message in a Bottle features queer art, writing, digital zines, behind the scenes videos, and zine readings made during zine making workshops and using our free zine making kits. The workshops prioritised LGBTQIA+ residents of Newham and took inspiration from the Royal Docks as well as including art and writing from across the UK.

We were blown away by everyone’s work and we are proud to be associated with you all.

The entire project was a collaboration between Queer Zine Library and Queer Newham and was supported by The Royal Docks team. Thank you to everyone who has worked behind the scenes to make this happen, including our brilliant collective of zine cataloguers who have done so much to make the library accessible during a time lockdown.
